EndNote: Backing Up

EndNote (EN) is a software for automating the many repetitive steps involved in organizing and formatting the references and bibliography in your academic writing. EndNote Online is the web version of EN, with fewer features.

To Compress Your EndNote Library

1. Click on File on the top menu bar and select Compressed Library (.enlx)

2. Name your library and a xxx.enlx file will be created

3. You can then save the xxx.enlx file in a thumb-drive, portable hard-disk or email the file yourself

4. To open up the EndNote Library, open up the xxx.enlx file and it will unzip itself and open the library

Saving as a Package - Mac Users Only

For Mac users, you can save a copy of your EndNote Library as a single xxx.enlp EndNote Library Package File, which you can save on a thumb-drive, portable hard-disk or even email yourself.
