NUS Libraries Digital Scholarship (DS) Projects

Visual Archives of the Silk and Spice Routes

By Dr Marina Kaneti, research team & Digital Scholarship, NUS Libraries (2020)

Visual media dates back to the earliest periods in human history as a primary means of communication. Today, we are saturated by film, images, art, and other forms that shape the way we view and interact with the world. Mediums such as these take us beyond verbal renderings and open the door to alternative interpretations and unspoken narratives.

This archive is dedicated to sharing visual narratives of the Silk and Spice Routes as captured through images and film. Allow yourself to reimagine, reinterpret, and re-evaluate your understanding of the people, places, and objects that shaped the Silk and Spice Route.
