In Muak, Yun for the first time used motoric rhythms as an organizational principle. Muak was the first composition in which he lent expression to two different musical worlds of the East and West as fundamental opposites. The piece demonstrates that it is possible for these two worlds not only to coexist but also to engage in mutual interchange. As a musical bridge between East and West, Muak points ahead to a real utopia far beyond the everyday political horizon.

This work shows a path that is already preparing the way for the characteristics of his final style. The game instructions for Nore which literally means "song", which is also a term for expression "Cantabile". Sound formations layered in thirds dominate, whose uniqueness Yun always relativizes through dissonant additional tones or the heterophonic splitting of individual tones. -

An imaginative piece written for Yun's granddaughter, Li-Na Chen, who was fourteen at the time and playing the violin, and her Elisa Cozzini, a little older flutist from the Roberto Fabbriciani school. The young artists played the work for the first time on July 10, 1988 as part of a flute workshop in Chiusi, Italy. First notated as a duo, the composition is a meditation on the third, but also a game of approach and distance to the most harmonious of intervals. The colour value of the third stimulated Yun to organize tonal states of uncertainty that avoid any unambiguousness: major or minor sounds are constantly present and yet never become manifest as tonality; the tonal relationships always remain ambiguous and in flux. Yun only added the bass part later and left the possibilities of scoring the work open with the statement –per due strumenil con basso ad libitum.
