Theses and Dissertations

ScholarBank@NUS holds selected students' theses from various faculties, ranging from undergraduate level to postgraduate levels. The theses have different type of access settings as determined by the author/ department: Open to public, Restricted to NUS communities, or Closed access.

  1. Ph.D and Master’s (by Research) theses from September 2003 onwards. These theses were submitted to ScholarBank@NUS via NUS Graduate School's Electronic Theses & Dissertations (ETD) system.
  2. Undergraduate theses, UROP/DR from Faculty of Law, Master's (by Coursework) theses from January 2018 onwards. The theses were submitted via department coordinators to ScholarBank@NUS.
  3. Selected old theses in print or microfiche format that were digitized by NUS Libraries.

Note: Not all departments deposit their undergraduate theses to ScholarBank@NUS. Please contact the respective department for access of theses not found in ScholarBank@NUS.

To view and download thesis in the Restricted collection, you will have to login using your NUS-ID/ password. Refer to this guide for more information on how to access files in ScholarBank@NUS.

Theses in the Closed collection are not available for access.

Finding Thesis

All items in ScholarBank@NUS are grouped into collections and there are 4 main communities: Staff, Students, Departments and Others. Theses can be found in the Students community.

  1. On ScholarBank@NUS main page, click on the Discover ScholarBank@NUS tab.
  2. Under the Communities section, click on the View all button.

  1. At the Communities page, click to expand on the Students community to view all available collections.

  1. Click on any collection to view the full list of theses under this collection. You can further refine your results in this collection by using the filter on the left panel, or search using a specific keyword in the search box.

You can also discover theses in ScholarBank@NUS by searching using specific keywords.

Here is a list of commonly used search fields to retrieve theses records.

Construct a search statement using your desired search term(s) to retrieve relevant results.

For example, you want to find Bachelor theses supervised by Assoc. Prof. Bruce Lockhart.

Sample Search Statement: dc.type:(thesis) AND dc.description.degree:(Bachelor) AND dc.contributor.supervisor:(Bruce)

 

Records in ScholarBank@NUS are indexed by major search engines such as Google and Google Scholar. Users can find ScholarBank@NUS records via these search engines.

1. You can do a topic search using keywords that best describe your topic, e.g. dementia thesis + scholarbank

2. You can do an exact title search.

 

In both examples, you will see ScholarBank@NUS records in the search results page. From the search result page, click on the link to go to the record in ScholarBank@NUS.
